The Georgetown business improvement district, in Washington D.C., implemented a counting program using automatic counters to study downtown attendance. The data from the Eco-Counters were used to measure the storefront exposure of certain shops, to analyze pedestrian flows, to determine circulation problems and to evaluate the impact of events announced on Facebook.

The data collected from the pedestrian counters were also valuable in making the case for a nearby streetcar station.
